Subject to Change

Once commonly known as a journal or diary, a person’s writings on daily events and points of view have now come to be termed “a blog.” Knowing neither the root nor the provenance of this rather graceless word, while acknowledging its apparent acceptance by all those shy of octogenarian status I just have to appreciate it for what it is, show a little youthfulness and write on.

It is my own fault in many ways for having paused too long in the journaling of Flowerbud.com. It was no less a period sufficient for a change in nomenclature. All quite lax on my part as it had become something of a staple over the years and a rather candid insight into the valiant and oft misguided struggles of a dot com to survive a bubble, a lack of capital, a host of ruthless suitors and a mission far more complex than could have been conceived in those far gone days of journals and diaries. Let it be known as “going through a rough patch” and be assured that all is well and likely far better than I could have ever reasonably expected.

It is not without trepidation that I ease into the “blogosphere.” I have a feeling the world is awash with “bloggers.” Is it possible we all have something of value to say, that we all can garner avid readers? Apparently China already has greater than one hundred million internet users and half of them wish to blog. Fortunately the vast majority of them are female, single, in their early twenties and very much of the “me generation” liking to blog only about themselves. There just might be a window of differentiation here! So here goes and a hearty thank you for those who have labored to bring this about.

No matter the time passed some things change little, as in my being seated in an exit row aboard a Delta Jet. In recent memory no one gave a tinker’s damn for the survival of Flowerbud.com, ditto for Delta. I still fly the miles with them because in the millions flown they have yet to strand me or let me down and the dietician’s nightmare that now parades itself in a child’s lunchbox format containing a stick of shortbread and some unsightly paste named smoked gouda enables me to go coast to coast with nary a calorie passing my lips. Perhaps Delta singularly keeps me from obesity. Will Delta Flight Kitchens please review the archived journals and note my appreciation of your meals of old. I enjoyed them just as much as I now enjoy your updated website.

While Delta Airlines temporarily limps on its wings, Flowerbud’s appearance, content, quality and proposition value have soared. It is now a well tested and proven business model that flourishes, proven not just by itself but also by a competitor or two. Jointly we all pursue new heights with few signs of abatement. While the bankruptcy judges were looking at Delta with gimlet eyes we in turn have had something more akin to royalty sniffing around. There really are such people in the flower universe. While regal eyes were not exactly gimlet the Scotsman’s Purse was much in evidence and only letting out a moth or two!

This flight just happens to be passing over Memphis at the moment, which as readers new and old are aware, is the home of FedEx, the sole carrier of Flowerbud ’s green boxes. It is a position becoming rather unusual in today’s market as companies in our field flee for “Brown” or grudgingly structure a pairing of both giants. The upshot being that FedEx reliability from Flowerbud’s point of view begins to relieve a little of the angst they have caused me in years past.

While blogging creates something of a change to my routine and adds another dimension of interest to this company we can relax in the stasis that Mark still flies Delta whenever possible and his flowers stil always fly FedEx. All else is subject to change.
